About

Owen Perry — independent product engineer for small fintechs and funds.

e7n is a one-person practice. No team page, no account layer. Senior delivery, end-to-end, one engagement at a time.

Portrait of Owen Perry
Background

Fifteen years inside trading, exchange, and fintech platforms.

I started in fixed-income analytics at FactSet in San Francisco, spent three years in trading operations at NASDAQ in Stockholm, and the following decade working inside institutional trading and investment platforms — Itiviti, Quod Financial, AiX, Broadridge, Onyx Capital Group, Tradeteq, and a handful of independent engagements. The job was always the same: take unclear requirements, regulated constraints, and impatient stakeholders, and ship working software.

e7n is the independent version of that. The focus is narrower: automation, integration, and internal tooling for small fintechs, funds, and trading desks that need senior delivery without a programme team. The work is faster, less political, and closer to the people actually using the software.

How I work

Four principles.

  1. 01

    Ship first, polish second

Working software beats long plans. The first sprint produces something that runs against real or realistic data, not a slide deck.

  2. 02

    Auditable by default

Every automation and integration is built with logs, change control, and a clear handoff to compliance. If an auditor or regulator asks, the evidence is already there.

  3. 03

    One operator, accountable end-to-end

No account manager in front of the engineer. The person writing the code is the person on the call and the person writing the post-mortem.

  4. 04

    LLM-accelerated, human-validated

LLM tools accelerate coding, testing, and documentation. Diffs are still reviewed line-by-line, tests are still run, and nothing confidential leaves your tenancy without written approval.

Selected prior work

Representative outcomes, anonymised where required.

  1. 65% faster

    Pre-trade risk stop-gap

    Offshore Bank · 2025

Designed and delivered a pre-trade risk layer that reduced order-to-confirmation round-trip time by 65%, improving throughput and control during a Temenos / Bloomberg TOMS integration.

  2. Hundreds of hours / yr

    Daily fixed-income reporting automated

    NASDAQ · 2012–2015

Led the automation of a daily fixed-income reporting process, working cross-functionally to ship an MVP that removed hundreds of annual manual hours and stood up the pattern for subsequent reports.

  3. $3B → $4.5B+

    Private credit note issuance scaled

    Tradeteq · 2023–2025

Owned product strategy and North Star metrics for a private credit investment platform; managed a strategic origination integration that unlocked $2M+ ARR and supported note issuance growth.

  4. 17-venue SOR

Smart order router and options price-improvement

    Broadridge · 2021–2022

Led roadmap and delivery for derivatives trading technology programmes worth $30M+ TCV across Tier 1 bank clients, shipping SOR, ETF, and algorithmic trading capabilities.

  5. +15% throughput

Kaizen improvement at a trading-tech vendor

    Itiviti · 2015–2018

Introduced a Kaizen process that raised support throughput by 15% across three mission-critical derivatives trading, risk, and pricing platforms for Nordic banks.

  6. MVP in weeks

0→1 builds with an LLM-assisted pipeline

    Independent · 2025–present

    Shipped gallery commerce, a fintech change-control tool, and a crypto gaming platform 0→1 — prototype-first, human-reviewed, production-ready.

What I do

Engagements I take on.

  • Back-office automation for funds, desks, and fintechs
  • CRM ↔ OMS / PMS / accounting / vendor data integrations
  • Internal tools and dashboards for small teams
  • Two-week prototype sprints with a go/no-go at day 14
  • Fractional product and engineering retainers
What I don't do

Out of scope.

  • Formal regulatory filings or legal compliance opinions
  • Ultra-low-latency co-location or hardware work
  • Offshore body-shops or fixed-scope waterfall programmes
  • Equity-only or rev-share-only arrangements as a default
  • Engagements where scope cannot be written down
